For more than a decade Middlesex University Dubai has been enriching the educational landscape of the UAE through its innovative programmes which combine rigorous academic currlicums with professional practice. As the role of the Data Scientist rapidly becomes a required position for any company, the University has announced the launch of its MSc Data Science beginning in September 2019.
The Master’s in Data Science can be studied full-time (over one year) or part-time (over 2 years), and is the only British university in the region to offer the programme on a full-time basis. The course will be taught by industry experts and a notable list of visiting faculty including a world record holder in mathematics and a gradute of the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
“We are so pleased to launch the MSc Data Science which will allow students involved in mathematics, statistics, and computer science, to obtain the leverage of emerging technologies to solve real-life problems. Any company, no matter what size, needs to understand how they can get the most out of their data, and therefore the career opportunities for graduates of this programme are in abundance,” said said Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Middlesex University Dubai.
The programme will include areas of machine learning, visual analytics, and data governance, striking the perfect balance between theoretical underpinnings, practical application, and acquisition of industrially-relevant experience. It will cover topics such as applied data analytics, practical big data handling, and cloud distribution, as well as legal, ethical and security aspects of data management. Over the course of five modules, students will also be exposed to business insights on how the different verticals in an organisation use Data Science to address various business issues.
Launched under the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department at Middlesex University Dubai, students can also make use of the department’s established industry partnerships with leading tech giants such as Epson, Dell-EMC, Cisco, Oracle, IBM and SAP.
MSc Data Science is one of nine new programmes which will be available to students joining the University in September 2019. Students who apply and enrol for the MSc Data Science are eligible for a Postgraduate Grant of 10% along with a New Programme Grant of AED 5,000 if enrolling before 30 June 2019.
