Middlesex University Dubai’s first-of-its-kind Institute of Sustainable Development will be celebrating its launch by holding a Certificate Course on Corporate Social Responsibility on 15 November 2018 from 8:30 am to 2pm. This complimentary workshop will be held at the University’s Oasis Theatre, and is aimed at individuals who wish to learn more about Corporate Social Responsibility, how they can integrate this into their workplace, or those who are looking to pave a new career path with a purpose.
The Institute of Sustainable Development (ISD) fosters the advancement of sustainable development into the University, community and global practices. Through outreach, research and training, ISD is a thought leader in sustainability and is a strong advocate of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is with these goals in mind, and the aim to secure a sustainable future by promoting partnerships with businesses, civil society and government, that the ISD presents its first hands-on workshop.
The UAE is dedicated to promoting sustainable development and creating a socially responsible nation. The year 2018 marked the Year of Zayed to commemorate 100 years since the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE. It is dedicated to remembering the late Sheikh Zayed, and showcase his impact and legacy, and promote the values that he displayed throughout his life. Sustainability is one of the core strategic objectives of the Year of Zayed, and it aims to achieve both economic and environmental sustainability diversification, innovation and preservation.
Supporting the UAE’s initiatives to promote sustainability, this one-day CSR workshop by ISD uses a mix of theory, tools, principles and case studies that allow for active learning to be incorporated into practice. This course is designed for organisations, professionals, individuals and students interested in deepening their CSR understanding. The course promotes the importance of CSR across the UAE and internationally, develops an academic understanding of concepts on sustainability and governance, and explores the ideas, principles and strategic development of CSR.
The course also teaches how to mainstream CSR strategies within organisations, assess ethics and trends, develop a map for stakeholder engagement and evaluate reporting and communications standards.
“CSR is an important concept that contributes to sustainable development by delivering economic, social and environmental benefits for all stakeholders. The key is finding the balance between making a positive impact and leveraging it to benefit both business and community,” said Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, Director and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Middlesex University Dubai. “Through the one-day certificate course, we aim to equip students and professionals with the knowledge required to either pave a successful career in CSR or further their professional standing by integrating it into their existing portfolio.”
The workshop will be co-facilitated by the renowned social worker, Nicole Malick, LSW & MSW, Visiting Lecturer at the University and Dr Belisa Marochi, Senior Lecturer in International Relations and Head of the Institute of Sustainable Development at Middlesex University Dubai.
