AUS Researchers Earn Patent For Breakthrough Miniaturized Radar System
Researchers at American University of Sharjah (AUS) have developed a compact radar transceiver that delivers advanced precision and dynamic range using low-cost printed circuit board (PCB) technology. The patented system offers high-resolution detection in a portable form, opening new possibilities in transportation safety, defense, civil protection and healthcare applications. Developed by Dr. Lutfi Albasha and Dr. Hasan Mir, both Professors in Electrical Engineering at AUS, the invention uses a novel signal processing approach that can detect subtle motion differences that standard radar systems usually miss. The compact, low-power design also delivers high accuracy and range while reducing size, cost and energy loss, marking a major step forward in portable radar technology. “This invention combines advanced signal processing with a compact, low-power design to detect and classify small or low-flying objects such as drones with accuracy,” said Dr. Albasha. “Unlike traditional radars made for large targets, it captures fine motion signatures, allowing it to identify subtle movements like a hovering drone, human motion or structural vibrations. The system is adaptable, networkable and reliable in all weather and lighting conditions. It also protects privacy, which makes it ideal for a wide range of civil applications.” The radar was co-developed with Mansour Taghadosi, […]
Students Learn To Draw, Write And Imagine With AI At SIBF 2025 Comic Workshop
The future of storytelling took a playful turn at the ongoing 44th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) as a group of curious young minds gathered for a storytelling workshop aimed at introducing the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to students – some as young as four years old. The “Writing Comic Strips with AI” session showed participants how to use AI-driven creative tools to generate ideas, design characters and help budding artists shape their own comic universes. “This workshop is about showing how AI can be a co-creator, not a replacement,” said Ritin Nair, the facilitator of the session. “We want kids to see that technology can expand their imagination – not limit it.” However, some like Abigail, 4 years old,, who’s barely started school, the half-hour class was all about learning shapes and sizes. “I loved to colour the cartoons.” “Today’s workshop had really small kids who don’t fully know how to use AI yet. So for the younger ones, we gave cutouts of comic strips and asked them to fill them creatively. For older participants however, we guide them to use AI prompts to help generate ideas, dialogue, and storylines. They fill the strips, draw characters, and then ask […]

AUS Students’ Desert Rescue Project Earns Global Recognition
When someone goes missing in the desert, every minute can mean the difference between life and death. That urgency inspired a group of American University of Sharjah (AUS) students to develop Shaheen, a senior design project that equips drones with the ability to spot lost individuals and alert rescuers in real time. Their innovation has just earned second place at Dell Technologies’ 2024–2025 Envision the Future competition, which attracted 259 projects from 14 countries across the Middle East, Turkey and Africa. The nameShaheen comes from the falcon admired in the UAE for its speed, sharp vision and precision. Just as the falcon is able to spot its target from great distances, the device, when attached to a drone, can scan wide stretches of desert with accuracy and agility, giving rescuers precious time when lives are at risk. Shaheen was developed by computer engineering students Yousef Irshaid, Malik Hader and Adham Elmosalamy along with computer science student Ahmad Alsaleh, under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Alhajri, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering. Their work Shaheen was recognized in May 2025, when the AUS Department of Computer Science and Engineering (computer engineering program) awarded the project first place in its Senior […]

Why Organic Ranking Matters The Most In Being Found On The Internet
In the vast and competitive landscape of the internet, standing out and being found by potential customers or readers is paramount. While there are many strategies to achieve visibility, organic ranking holds a special place. Organic ranking refers to the position of a website in the search engine results pages (SERPs) based on its relevance to the search query, without paid advertisements. Here are several reasons why organic ranking matters the most in being found on the internet. 1. Credibility and Trust Websites that rank organically are often perceived as more credible and trustworthy. When a website appears at the top of the organic search results, users tend to believe it is there because it is the best match for their query. Unlike paid ads, which users know can be bought, organic results are seen as earned through merit. This credibility can significantly influence a user’s decision to click on a link and engage with the content. 2. Cost-Effectiveness Achieving a high organic ranking is cost-effective compared to running extensive paid advertising campaigns. While SEO requires an investment of time and resources to develop high-quality content, optimize the website, and build backlinks, these efforts can result in long-term benefits. Once a website […]

This involves incorporating regional phrases or dialects that your audience uses. For instance, using “y’all” for a Southern U.S. audience or “crisps” for a British audience can create a stronger connection.
